The parents of the teenager who allegedly went on a mass shooting spree in Raleigh, North Carolina, Oct. 13 committed to helping police with their investigation.
“We have so many unanswered questions,” Alan and Elise Thompson said in a joint statement, according to a CBS 17 report. “There were never any indications or warning signs that Austin was capable of doing anything like this. Our family will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement officials and do whatever we can to help them understand why and how this happened.”
Austin Thompson, 15, is the suspected shooter, CBS 17 reported. He has been hospitalized with multiple injuries, including a gunshot wound to the head, since the incident in the eastern part of Raleigh. He was recently listed in critical condition.
“Words cannot begin to describe our anguish and sorrow,” the parents said in their statement. “Our son Austin inflicted immeasurable pain on the Raleigh community, and we are overcome with grief for the innocent lives lost.”
The Thompson’s offered prayers for those who were lost in the shooting, as well as prayers for their loved ones, according to their statement.
Five people were killed in the shooting including a police officer and Austin’s 16-year-old brother.
