County of Wake issued the following announcement on Nov. 27.
Statement on the fire at the Wall Recycling facility in northeast Raleigh:
The Wall Recycling facility is located in the Wake New Hope Fire Department’s jurisdiction, which is part of the Wake County Fire Tax District.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but it is believed to be accidental at this point.
The Wake County Fire Marshal’s Office is working with the Wake New Hope Fire Department, the City of Raleigh, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and Wall Recycling to monitor the company’s efforts to mitigate the fire, which have been going on around the clock and are expected to be complete by tomorrow night.
Wake County does not issue open burn permits – the county defaults to the state’s regulations – but this fire was not related to any permitted burning activity.
