The latest edition of Raleigh Fire News provides several updates and stories about the Raleigh Fire Department's activities and initiatives.

A few months ago, Raleigh Fire Department Chaplain Jeff Neal visited a local bookstore after an official event. Wearing his uniform, he was approached by a patron who asked if he would speak to campers at the Nate McMillan Foundation camp about the fire department and community service. "After telling her what I do, she asked me if I’d be interested in coming to speak to campers at the Nate McMillan Foundation camp about the fire department and serving the community," Neal recalls. "She didn’t have to ask twice." The newsletter contains more details about RFD’s visit to the camp.

The New Construction Division at the Raleigh Fire Department aims to protect residents, property, and first responders. The division reviews construction plans, issues permits, and inspects buildings to ensure compliance with state codes and national standards. More information on their role and significance is available in this edition.

Additionally, the Raleigh Fire Department emphasizes the importance of having functional smoke alarms. Smoke alarms can reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by 54 percent. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is: “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!” Further details are provided in the newsletter.

Fire Chief Herbert Griffin addresses how the Raleigh Fire Department is preparing for potential large-scale civil unrest incidents in this edition as well.

Lastly, there are updates on recent retirements and promotions within RFD, along with congratulations extended to those individuals.
