When visiting Pullen Park, visitors can now enjoy a new walkway adorned with nearly a dozen carvings of squirrels, birds, and other wildlife. This addition transforms the park into a sanctuary-like experience.

"Knowing that Pullen Park is a historic part of the City of Raleigh, we realized a few years back that our trees can tell a lot of that story," said Scott Mott, Pullen Park Director. "This new feature is a stunning enhancement to the entrance of our park. Each day we see over 100 families choosing to walk down the path and explore that artwork."

The carvings were crafted from a white oak tree that was removed last year from the park. The familiar woodsy creatures were created by chainsaw artist Corey Lancaster, known for carving Berkeley the squirrel in Nash Park.

"It's humbling to think that these trees planted by someone in our roles over 75 years ago are now being repurposed in a beautiful way, rather than just being removed," added Mott.

Visitors are encouraged to greet these new residents during their next visit to Pullen Park.
