The Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communication Center (ECC) has once again achieved national reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This recognition was awarded for meeting over 200 professional standards aimed at improving public safety services. The reaccreditation will remain valid for four years.

ECC Director Dominick Nutter emphasized the importance of this achievement in ensuring the safety and security of Raleigh and Wake County. "Our area continues to grow quickly, and we need to be prepared to meet the public safety needs of our increasing population," he stated. "In order to receive this certification our team must perform at a high level every day. At the heart of the effort are our call-takers and telecommunicators who provide outstanding service to residents and first responders."

This marks the sixth time ECC has received CALEA accreditation, with its first award dating back to 2007. The accreditation process involves a self-assessment, evaluation by independent assessors, and input from both the public and agency personnel. Following these steps, a governing body consisting of 21 commissioners reviews documentation and conducts a public hearing before deciding on accreditation.
