The upcoming Black History Month in 2025 will feature several events in Raleigh, each highlighting different aspects of African American history and culture. These events aim to educate and engage the community through various activities.
On Saturday, February 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., an event will honor Joseph “Joe” Winters, Sr., a former Raleigh Police Department officer and music promoter. His efforts brought famous musical acts such as Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, the Supremes, and Diana Ross to Raleigh in the mid-1900s. The celebration will include an educational presentation, a pop-up exhibit, a live band, and light refreshments.
For younger attendees aged 0-6 years old, "Lessons for Littles" is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event aims to inspire future leaders with story times, arts and crafts, and socialization opportunities that incorporate educational components honoring trailblazers.
On Saturday, February 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Chavis Museum of African American History and Culture will host a pop-up museum day. Exhibits will focus on significant Black figures across sports, arts, science, and more. Interactive activities accompanying each exhibit are designed for family enjoyment.
The month-long celebration concludes with a Black-Owned Business Pop-Up Market on Saturday, February 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event encourages support for local entrepreneurs by offering shopping opportunities with Black-owned businesses alongside local food trucks and networking chances.
