A traffic shift is set to take place on Durant Road in Wake County as part of a passenger rail project. Contractors for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will narrow lanes between Hawksmoor and Capital Hills drives to facilitate the construction of a bridge for the S-Line Passenger Rail Service. This bridge will eventually allow Durant Road traffic to pass over railroad tracks.
The work is scheduled to begin on February 8, with crews blocking the center turn lane to remove turn arrows along Durant Road. As a result, left turns and U-turns will be restricted, with signs indicating where such maneuvers are permitted.
Traffic patterns may change throughout the day; however, at least one lane in each direction will remain open. The traffic shift is expected to continue through most of the bridge's construction, which is projected to be completed by spring 2027.
Although no detour has been established, NCDOT advises drivers to consider alternate routes or plan ahead due to potential delays. Drivers are also urged to exercise caution near construction sites.
