Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas are celebrating the 10th annual Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day on March 18, 2025. This day recognizes the essential role natural gas workers play in providing safe, reliable, and affordable natural gas to nearly 189 million Americans.

More than 3,000 Duke Energy/Piedmont employees and contractors manage over 35,000 miles of natural gas infrastructure across Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee. These technicians often serve as first responders during natural gas emergencies and contribute significantly to modernizing the delivery system to meet customer needs and support community growth.

“Our Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas employees routinely go above and beyond to serve our customers and our communities, all while making safety their No. 1 priority,” said Brian Weisker, Duke Energy's senior vice president and president of its natural gas business. “I take pride in their level of commitment, not only to their jobs but to taking active roles and being leaders in the communities where they live and work.”

Amy Spiller, Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky state president, added: “Duke Energy employees perform inspiring work every day, whether it’s by putting in long hours to restore customers’ power or supporting their friends and neighbors in times of need. We are proud to honor our natural gas workers as part of this celebration and beyond. Their hard work is vital to serving our region.”

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear issued a proclamation on February 26 recognizing March 18 as Natural Gas Utility Worker Appreciation Day. The proclamation highlights the dedication of these crews who work under challenging conditions to maintain energy infrastructure.

Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day was established by the American Public Gas Association in 2015. It aims to raise public awareness about the contributions of natural gas utility employees while educating residents on the benefits of using clean natural gas.

Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky serves a large customer base with both electric and natural gas services across Ohio and Kentucky. Meanwhile, Piedmont Natural Gas distributes natural gas across several states in the South.

Duke Energy is one of America's largest energy holding companies headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., serving millions with electric utilities across multiple states. The company continues its transition towards cleaner energy solutions while maintaining reliability for its customers.
