Toyota has announced the introduction of the 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid Nightshade Edition, a new addition to its lineup that offers distinctive styling and advanced technology. This model will be available in Karashi, Wind Chill Pearl, and Midnight Black Metallic.

Built on the XSE grade, the Nightshade Edition is characterized by black accents including sleek badging, door sills, handles, and bumper trim. It also features 19-inch black-finished alloy wheels.

The 2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be offered in SE, XSE, Nightshade Edition, and XSE Premium grades. The SE grade boasts a manufacturer-estimated 44-mile all-electric driving range thanks to its 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery. Other grades have an estimated 40-mile all-electric range.

Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system combines a 2.0-liter engine with electric motor generators for efficient driving with a combined rating of up to 52 MPG and total horsepower of 220.

The vehicle is expected to reach dealerships this summer with prices starting at $33,775 for the SE grade.

“The Prius Plug-in Hybrid is powered by Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain,” according to Toyota’s release. This allows home charging via standard outlets without special equipment.

Various drive modes are available: EV Mode uses only the battery; Auto EV/HV Mode primarily uses the battery but can switch to HV mode when needed; Hybrid Mode combines gasoline engine and electric motors as necessary.

Inside, drivers will find premium features such as digital gauge clusters and Toyota’s Audio Multimedia system. Traffic Jam Assist technology is also standard across all grades.

Exterior color options include Cutting Edge, Guardian Gray, Midnight Black Metallic, and Reservoir Blue. Karashi is exclusive to the Nightshade grade.

Technological enhancements include an audio multimedia screen varying by grade size from 8 inches to 12.3 inches on higher trims like XSE Premium which also includes JBL Premium Audio System.

Safety features come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 which includes systems like Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist among others.

For warranty details: “Toyota’s 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle warranty applies” alongside other extended warranties covering various components including hybrid-related parts up to eight years or more depending on mileage conditions.

The ToyotaCare plan covers maintenance for two years or up to 25,000 miles plus roadside assistance for three years without mileage limitations.

Toyota remains committed to sustainable mobility solutions through its extensive electrified vehicle offerings across both Toyota and Lexus brands.
