Toyota Motor North America has announced a new investment exceeding $50 million in its Arizona Proving Grounds. The investment will include the construction of a 5.5-mile oval track and expanded capabilities for vehicle and technology testing. These developments affirm Toyota’s commitment to the facility, which has been available as a vehicle testing resource since 2021.

Stefan Young, Vice President at Toyota Motor North America’s Research and Development, stated, “The new investment in Arizona signals the facility’s importance to Toyota.” He highlighted that site updates make it more attractive for companies to test new vehicle capabilities.

Managed by Intertek Transportation Technologies since 2021, the Arizona Mobility Test Center at Toyota Arizona Proving Grounds (AMTC at TAPG) covers approximately 11,650 acres near Wittmann, Arizona. It offers 77 miles of testing surfaces and has hosted numerous organizations for various tests and events.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs commented on the economic benefits of the investment: “We’re grateful to Toyota for its efforts to bring innovation and opportunity to Arizona.” Similarly, Leo Biasiucci, Chairman of the Arizona House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, expressed gratitude for Toyota’s commitment to innovation in Wittmann.

Toyota established the Arizona Proving Grounds in 1993. Since then, it has been instrumental in testing over 50 Toyota and Lexus vehicles for the North American market. With this latest development phase set for completion later this year, Toyota continues to strengthen its research and development efforts in North America.
