Toyota has introduced the Scion 01 Concept, a new off-road side-by-side vehicle, at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The concept was developed by North American Toyota engineers and features a high-output turbocharged hybrid powertrain, which is derived from Toyota’s truck lineup and delivers over 300 horsepower. The vehicle also includes a Silent Mode that allows for electric-only operation on trails.

Don Federico, chief engineer and vice president of Vehicle Performance Development at Toyota, said, “The Scion 01 Concept is about taking what we do best at Toyota and blending it with the passions that drive us. It’s the intersection of advanced performance and our deep enthusiasm for adventure. By bringing those worlds together in a side-by-side format, we’re exploring how Toyota performance can live in entirely new spaces — and inspire a new generation of enthusiasts to get out and go.”

The Scion 01 Concept was designed to handle various off-roading scenarios such as high-speed racing, trail running, and rock crawling. It incorporates an FIA-compliant safety cage developed by Toyota that meets SCORE and FIA racing standards. The concept uses proven driveline, suspension, and brake components selected for reliability under extreme conditions.

The design was created by CALTY, Toyota’s U.S.-based design team. According to Toyota, the concept aims to combine performance, efficiency, and adventure in one package while demonstrating how hybrid technology can enhance off-road experiences.

Toyota emphasized that the Scion 01 is a special concept vehicle not intended for sale.

In related developments, Toyota began assembling automotive batteries for electrified vehicles at its North Carolina plant in 2025. The company employs nearly 48,000 people in the United States across its manufacturing operations.
