Construction is set to begin this fall on the Wake Bus Rapid Transit (BRT): New Bern Avenue Project in Raleigh. City officials have announced a pre-construction meeting scheduled for Monday, August 18, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Martin Street Baptist Church, located at 1001 E Martin St.

The project will introduce Raleigh’s first BRT route along New Bern Avenue, connecting downtown Raleigh with WakeMed and New Hope Road. The new system will feature dedicated bus lanes aimed at providing faster and more reliable service, enhanced stations designed for comfort and accessibility, traffic signal priority to help buses maintain schedules, and specialized BRT vehicles for smoother rides.

City representatives described the initiative as “more than a bus upgrade; it’s a City project that brings better access, greater reliability, and smarter mobility to one of Raleigh’s busiest corridors.”

Residents are invited to attend the pre-construction meeting to hear directly from the construction team about what to expect during the upcoming work and to ask questions regarding the BRT system.
