John Chavis Memorial Park is collaborating with the Heart of Carolina Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen to host the 2025 Youth Aviation Academy. This initiative aims to inspire students aged 9-16 by educating them about the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, aviation careers, and modern flight.

The program will offer five sessions featuring a curriculum focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), alongside interactive learning experiences. The sessions are scheduled as follows:

– On September 10 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants will explore the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen and engage in an aviation career panel.
– October 4 will focus on principles and forces of flight with hands-on activities from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
– A field trip is planned for October 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., taking students to the NCDOT Aviation Hangar at RDU Airport, with transportation and lunch provided.
– November 1 offers a flight simulator session along with virtual reality and aviation trivia from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
– The final session on December 6 includes another flight simulator experience, drones activity, paper airplane contest, and concludes with a pizza party from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The program is free of charge but encourages registration through RecLink starting July 22.
