Economic Development Conference brought Governor Roy Cooper and other North Carolina officials over to East Asia.
Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina announced this - North Carolina’s relationship with Japan continues to grow stronger, bringing success to both the Southeastern US and Japan.
Governor Roy Cooper said that the goal of this business trip is to recruit more Japanese industries, from The News and Observer. An effort they have been making for 45 years now. North Carolina is one of the states that operates their business all around the world. Japan is one of the oldest countries they work with. About 30 years ago Japan was at third for the most economic country behind the United Kingdom and Germany.
The governor has been in Japan all week with one goal, from WCNC. They described in their article that North Carolina is working with Japan to bring back "big bucks" to the United States. They want to bring more jobs back to North Carolina. Japan just happens to be an industry that can do that. North Carolina and Japan's relationship is strong currently with around 30,000 North Carolina civilians working for about 200 Japanese companies.
Governor Roy Cooper was joined in Japan by NC Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders and Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina Chair Chris Chung and also with other economic development leaders. There were 35 attendees, making this the largest congregation North Carolina has ever presented in Tokyo, from NC GOV. Cooper has been in touch with the Japanese ambassador about further plans.
