The city of Raleigh has announced a $5 million investment to support the construction of 200 affordable rental units. The development, known as Battle Bridge, will cater specifically to senior households with low incomes, providing a much-needed solution to the growing affordable housing crisis in the area.

The Battle Bridge development will consist of 100 one-bedroom units and 100 two-bedroom units, all of which will serve households earning below 80% of the Area Median Income. In addition, the project will include 20 units set aside for households with disabilities and 20 units for Wake County Rental Assistance Housing Program voucher holders.

Speaking about the initiative, Mayor John Doe expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We are eager to bring this much-needed affordable housing to our community. Battle Bridge will not only provide safe and affordable homes for our senior residents but will also contribute to the overall well-being of our city."

The city's investment in Battle Bridge is part of the Joint Venture Rental Development program, which provides low-interest loans to developers for the construction or preservation of affordable apartments. Since its inception in 1988, the program has supported over 3,000 affordable homes in Raleigh. The city has set a goal to create or preserve 5,700 affordable units by 2026.

The Battle Bridge development is strategically located in southeast Raleigh, within a half-mile of a shopping center that includes a grocery store, pharmacy, and bus stop. This convenient proximity to essential amenities will ensure that residents have easy access to their daily needs.

With the construction of Battle Bridge, the city of Raleigh is taking a proactive approach to address the issue of affordable housing. By providing financial support and partnering with developers, the city is working towards its goal of creating a more equitable and inclusive community.
