Building Safety Month kicks off in May, aiming to raise public awareness about the importance of building safety and regulations. Throughout the month, various initiatives will be highlighted to educate individuals on staying safe in different settings.

The campaign emphasizes the significance of building codes and regulations in protecting individuals. As stated by Building Safety Month organizers, "Building Safety Month is an annual public awareness campaign observed in May. Each week we'll highlight the role that building codes and regulations play in protecting people like you."

Preparing a building safety plan is crucial to safeguard buildings and properties. To aid in this preparation, individuals are encouraged to refer to the Ready Raleigh Guide, which provides essential information on contacting government agencies, compiling emergency kits, and responding to various hazards.

Week three of Building Safety Month focuses on building safety professionals. This week aims to shed light on their roles, how to engage with them, and even how to pursue a career in this field. As mentioned by organizers, "This week we will shine a spotlight on building safety professionals, including what they do, how to work with them, and how to become one yourself."

Additionally, children are encouraged to participate in learning about building safety from a young age. The International Code Council offers a Kids Corner page with interactive activities to help children understand the work of building safety professionals. By engaging with these resources, kids can earn a certificate as a Junior Code Official without even realizing they are learning important safety lessons.

As part of the Building Safety Month celebrations, events will be held in the community to engage with the public. One such event is the 2024 Earth Day Celebration on April 19 at Flowers Field at Dix Park. Another upcoming event is the Building Safety Month Pop-Up on May 10 at Home Depot on Capital Boulevard in Raleigh.

Building Safety Month serves as a reminder of the critical role that building safety plays in our lives and communities. Through education and awareness, individuals can better prepare for emergencies and contribute to safer living environments for all.
