The Raleigh Fire Department is launching a series of smoke alarm installation and home safety check events this summer, aimed at reducing the risk of death from home fires. Studies show that working smoke alarms can halve the likelihood of fatalities in such incidents.
Starting on June 1, these initiatives will be held in collaboration with the American Red Cross. The partnership aims to raise awareness about the crucial role of properly installed and maintained smoke alarms in preventing fire-related deaths and injuries.
A working smoke alarm provides an early warning, allowing residents to evacuate quickly as fires spread rapidly.
The department has scheduled six events across various communities:
- June 1 – Worthdale Park
- June 22 – Worthdale Park
- July 13 – Star Mount
- Aug. 10 – PT Alley
- Aug. 24 – Six Forks North
- Sept. 13 – Six Forks North
These events are set to run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., with no registration required. The Raleigh Fire Department intends to visit these communities approximately one week prior to each event date to notify residents.
For those interested in scheduling a smoke alarm installation, they can either visit their local Raleigh fire station or email fireprevention@raleighnc.gov.
