The Raleigh Fire Department is inviting applications for individuals interested in becoming firefighters, with the deadline for the January 2025 Fire Academy set for September 2. Applications received after this date will be considered for the June 2025 Academy.

According to the department, it is moving towards a continuous hiring cycle, with fire academies beginning in January and June. The process of becoming a firefighter in Raleigh is highly competitive. "Raleigh Fire receives applications from men and women of varying backgrounds and experiences," states a department representative, highlighting the diversity within the team.

The starting salary for a firefighter in Raleigh is $51,194 annually. The department offers job stability and a competitive benefits package.

Candidates are required to meet several prerequisites but do not need prior firefighting experience. They must be at least 18 years old at the time of application, possess a high school diploma or equivalent (with proof), have corrected vision of at least 20/30 in both eyes, and hold a valid driver’s license.
