Some community events were canceled or postponed due to Tropical Storm Debby. The following National Night Out events have been rescheduled:

The Raleigh Police Department believes the foundation for a safer community is knowing your neighbors and surroundings. National Night Out is an effort to strengthen the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while promoting neighborhood camaraderie to create a more caring place to live.

The event has been held annually nationwide since its inception in August of 1984 and is always observed on the first Tuesday in August. The Raleigh Police Department has supported National Night Out for more than three decades.

This year’s National Night Out will be observed on Aug. 6. In observance of the event, RPD asks residents to leave their porch lights on from 7 to 10 p.m. as a symbol of alertness and awareness that makes neighbors feel welcome.

For those wishing to have a community officer visit their event during National Night Out activities, they can email requests to Nationalnightout@raleighnc.gov.
