A new traffic signal and crosswalk have been installed at the intersection of Millbrook Road and Town and Country Road, aiming to enhance safety for both drivers and pedestrians. This initiative is expected to improve access to nearby destinations by car and on foot.
The installation of the traffic signal was prompted by a recurring pattern of crashes over the past five years. In several instances, vehicles turning left from Town and Country Road were struck by vehicles traveling on Millbrook Road. The new signal is intended to facilitate safer turns from Town and Country Road.
Additionally, a new crosswalk with pedestrian signals has been established across Town and Country Road. This feature aims to help residents safely reach neighborhoods and shopping centers. The curb ramps have also been rebuilt to ensure wheelchair accessibility. Pedestrians can use the crosswalk by pressing a button, waiting for the "walk" symbol, and then crossing the street.
This project is a collaboration between the City of Raleigh and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). It was identified as necessary by Raleigh's Vision Zero team, which seeks to eliminate roadway fatalities. NCDOT provided funding, design, and construction for the project.
