Raleigh City Council has approved a $300,000 grant from the North Carolina Department of Information Technology to expand the Raleigh Digital Ambassadors Program. This initiative aims to ensure broader access to technology for residents.
The Digital Ambassadors Program engages local youth in helping community members learn about technology. The program has doubled in size within a year, enhancing access to digital skills training and devices for Raleigh's residents.
The grant will facilitate several enhancements:
- **Leadership Experiences:** Youth participants will gain more opportunities for leadership development within the community.
- **Expanded Services:** "Advice About Your Device" (AAYD) sessions will increase, providing more one-on-one support as individuals navigate technology and achieve their digital goals.
- **Mobile Distribution:** More devices will be distributed to help residents get online.
- **New Programs:** The "Learn & Earn" classes will expand, offering essential digital skills and a laptop upon course completion.
- **Community Tech Support:** A new Community Tech Check initiative will provide free or low-cost assistance with tech issues.
“We are thrilled to be able to accept the grant! The community along with our students will benefit greatly as the digital economy is changing more and more every day,” said Digital Inclusion Program Manager Yanira Campos.
This funding aims to equip Raleigh's residents with the necessary tools and skills for effective technology use in today's world.
