The Chicago Wolves, an American Hockey League team, have announced the recall of goalie Ruslan Khazheyev from the Bloomington Bison of the ECHL. Khazheyev is under contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Khazheyev, aged 19, recently made his debut in North American professional hockey. He recorded 12 saves for Bloomington in a match against Toledo. The goaltender hails from Chelyabinsk, Russia and was selected by the Hurricanes in the fifth round as the 158th overall pick during the 2023 NHL Draft.
This weekend, Chicago will face off against the Milwaukee Admirals in a home-and-home series scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. If Khazheyev takes to the ice, it will mark his first appearance in an AHL game.
"Carolina Hurricanes get G Ruslan Khazheyev (the best model numbers goalie of the 2023 draft). Somebody stop them! Anybody! Somebody?! A drafting clinic year in year out," commented Byron Bader on social media regarding Khazheyev's potential.
AHL games are available for viewing through their official channels.
