Sebastian Aho's overtime goal led the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center. This marked Aho's fourth overtime game-winning goal of the season, as he converted a one-timer from Martin Necas just 59 seconds into extra time.
The Hurricanes initially struggled, trailing 2-0 after the first period despite having a shot advantage. Seth Jarvis scored on a shorthanded breakaway early in the second period, followed by Jesperi Kotkaniemi leveling the score with a goal six minutes later. Ryan Donato restored Chicago's lead late in the second period, but Jordan Staal tied it again in the third with his 700th career point during his 1,300th NHL game.
Frederik Andersen made his return after knee surgery and played his 500th career game, stopping 22 of 25 shots. He is now among only 84 goaltenders in NHL history to reach this milestone. "The Great Dane" ranks second all-time for wins within his first 500 games.
Rod Brind'Amour praised both Staal and Andersen for their contributions. Brind'Amour credited Staal for his leadership and effort every night and acknowledged Andersen's crucial saves that kept Carolina in the game.
Aho shared his thoughts on the win: "The boys stuck with it. Freddie was kicking in the net, it was good to see."
Carolina has now extended its point streak against Chicago to 11 games and will face Dallas next.
