RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes continued their winning streak with a 4-2 victory over the Washington Capitals at Lenovo Center on Sunday. This win marks the sixth consecutive triumph for the Hurricanes, who are currently at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Key contributors to the Hurricanes' success were Dmitry Orlov and Martin Necas. Orlov scored two goals while Necas added one goal and two assists. Pyotr Kochetkov played a significant role in goal, saving 19 out of 21 shots.
Orlov initiated the scoring with a goal at 14:01 in the first period, receiving a pass from Necas and shooting past Charlie Lindgren. Despite two late goals from Washington in the first period, Necas equalized early in the second period before assisting Orlov's game-winning goal minutes later.
The Hurricanes dominated defensively in the third period, allowing only 11 shots from Washington over the last two periods. Andrei Svechnikov sealed the win with an empty-net goal towards the end of regulation time.
Martin Necas has been consistently performing well this season, recording points in six consecutive games and leading his team with 18 points overall. Jesperi Kotkaniemi also maintained his three-game point streak by assisting on one of Necas' goals.
Dmitry Orlov received praise from coach Rod Brind'Amour for his performance against his former team. "He's got that ability," Brind'Amour said about Martin Necas' recent form, adding that "he's been real special here to start the season."
Kochetkov commented on staying focused during games where he faces fewer shots: "I try to stay focused...today I feel not bad." Orlov shared his thoughts on playing against his old team: "It's not easy mentally, emotionally (to play against them)."
The Hurricanes will practice Monday before facing off against Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.
