The Carolina Hurricanes are set to face the Columbus Blue Jackets in a divisional matchup on December 31, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. ET puck drop and will be available for viewing on FanDuel Sports Network South and through their app. Fans can also listen to the game on 99.9 The Fan or via the Hurricanes App.

The Hurricanes currently hold a record of 22-13-1, placing them third in the Metropolitan Division with 45 points. They are coming off a recent victory against the New Jersey Devils, where they secured a 5-2 win. Notably, Jackson Blake scored the game-winning goal during a power play.

In contrast, the Blue Jackets have a record of 15-16-6 and are tied for fifth place in the same division with 36 points. Their last outing resulted in a 4-0 loss to the Boston Bruins.

Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere will not be playing due to an upper-body injury sustained on December 27. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour stated that Gostisbehere's absence is expected to be "longer than day-to-day." Ty Smith will replace him alongside Sean Walker.

As they conclude their calendar year with this match, the Hurricanes boast an impressive overall record of 54-23-4 for 2024, maintaining a league-leading .691 win percentage.

Columbus aims to recover from their recent defeat and will rely on Kirill Marchenko and Zach Werenski to lead their efforts against Carolina. Marchenko has accumulated 40 points this season, while Werenski ranks among the top-scoring defensemen in December.

Following this game, Carolina plans to practice in Florida before facing off against the Panthers on January 2 at Amerant Bank Arena.
