Swain County issues evacuation orders amid 911-acre wildfire

A wildfire has broken out near the Alarka Highlands in Swain County, covering an area of 911 acres. The fire is currently not contained, and local authorities have issued evacuation orders for residents. The locations affected are Long Creek Lane, Unahala Creek Lane, and Alarka Highlands Drive.

Swain County Emergency Management has communicated the necessity for these evacuations to ensure public safety. In response to the situation, the Southern Area Incident Management Gray Team is preparing to take control of the operation. They are scheduled to commence management of the incident on Friday, March 28, at 8 a.m.

Further updates on the situation are expected as the Incident Management Team assumes responsibility.
