Today, Governor Josh Stein announced two judicial appointments to the district courts in North Carolina. Jennifer Wells has been appointed to the District Court for Judicial District 1, which includes Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties. This appointment fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Edgar Barnes.
Wells previously served as an Assistant Public Defender with the Office of the First Judicial District Public Defender. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University and a Juris Doctor from Campbell University School of Law.
Cameron “Chip” Harrison has been appointed to the District Court for Judicial District 38 in Gaston County. He replaces Judge Craig Collins, who was elected to the Superior Court. Harrison's recent role was as an Assistant Public Defender with the Gaston County Public Defender’s Office. His professional experience also includes serving as an Attorney at Law at the Law Office of Aaron Bradshaw and teaching Business Law at Alamance Community College. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina – Wilmington and his Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University.
Governor Stein expressed confidence in both appointees: “Given their experience and record as public defenders, I am proud to appoint Jennifer and Cameron to the District Courts,” he said. “They will be fair and hard-working jurists, and I look forward to their service.”
