The City of Raleigh is opening its application cycle for small business grants from January 9 to February 2. The grants aim to support the growth and development of small businesses by helping owners activate vacant or underutilized commercial spaces in Raleigh.

The Building Up-fit Grant provides a matching reimbursement, up to $15,000 or $25,000 depending on qualified expenses, for interior improvements such as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work. Other eligible projects include HVAC installation, fire suppression systems, flooring, lighting, permanent fixtures installation, restroom construction, new wall construction or demolition of existing walls, and support mechanisms like roofing and foundation work. This grant does not apply to residential properties or those outside Raleigh.

The Facade Rehabilitation Grant offers matching reimbursement grants up to $10,000 for exterior refurbishments. Qualified improvements include the removal of false fronts like aluminum panels; repair or replacement of windows, doors, cornices; facade materials repair or replacement; exterior lighting; and painting associated with larger rehabilitation efforts.

Both programs are designed to stimulate economic activity by transforming commercial buildings into vibrant spaces that enhance the community.
