Feed your belly and your brain with a lecture event that invites participants to bring their lunch while engaging in an educational session. Each month, the event will feature a new topic, offering lectures that last between 30 to 40 minutes. These sessions begin shortly after noon to accommodate attendees.
The upcoming session will be led by Wanda Cox-Bailey, a retired librarian who also serves as the president of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society Triangle Chapter. Cox-Bailey has devoted her career to preserving the memories and oral histories of the Southeast community. With more than three decades of experience in Black children's literature, she advocates for representation in literature, stressing its importance for Black children.
Cox-Bailey is focused on safeguarding Raleigh’s diminishing African American neighborhoods' culture and history. She believes that sharing this history through quality children's books is beneficial for all communities.
The lecture will take place at the City of Raleigh Museum on Thursday, Feb. 20 from noon to 1 p.m., open to all ages and free of charge.
