Governor Josh Stein and Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt visited Wake Technical Community College to announce February as Career and Technical Education Month. During the visit, Governor Stein toured the auto tech labs and engaged with school administrators, apprenticeship students, and business leaders to discuss workforce challenges in North Carolina.
Governor Stein expressed his ambition for North Carolina to become a leading state for apprenticeships. "Investing in career and technical education is key to creating an economy in North Carolina that works for everyone," he stated. He emphasized collaboration with community colleges and corporate partners to shape the future workforce.
Lieutenant Governor Hunt highlighted the importance of community colleges in training the workforce. "Our community colleges are a wonderful source of opportunity," she said, expressing her eagerness to work with Governor Stein on enhancing training and apprenticeship programs statewide.
Dr. Scott Ralls, President of Wake Tech, shared his enthusiasm about hosting the governor. "Wake Tech is home to nearly 50,000 career technical students, 150 corporate apprenticeship partners, and some of the best workforce education facilities in the country," he remarked.
Governor Stein aims to boost North Carolina's economy by investing in job training and workforce development. This includes strengthening apprenticeships and supporting community college programs focused on high-demand industries.
