Governor Josh Stein has announced that Provalus, an information technology outsourcing firm, will establish a Center of Excellence in Edenton, North Carolina. This initiative is expected to create 61 jobs and bring an investment of $6.48 million to Chowan County.

"Companies like Provalus that need skilled workers recognize North Carolina offers talent in great small-town locations like Edenton," stated Governor Stein. He highlighted the state's workforce, education system, business climate, and infrastructure as key factors for attracting businesses.

Provalus, founded in 2017 under Optomi, LLC, focuses on creating technology opportunities in underserved areas. The company plans to upfit a former Sears retail store in downtown Edenton to meet client demands in cybersecurity, application development, and network operations. Provalus already operates facilities in Whiteville and previously announced a project in North Wilkesboro.

"This new Center of Excellence represents more than just business growth; it’s a testament to our commitment to empowering communities and unlocking potential," said Mike Keogh, President of Provalus. He expressed pride in bringing their mission to Edenton and creating lasting opportunities there.

Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley emphasized the state's military-friendly environment and its focus on workforce development programs that connect veterans with companies like Provalus.

The average salary for the new positions will be $46,393, slightly above the current average wage in Chowan County. A performance-based grant of $150,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will support the project. This fund assists local governments in attracting economic investments by providing financial aid contingent upon job creation and capital investment targets being met.

"We welcome this new investment and the new jobs Provalus is bringing to Edenton," said N.C. Representative Edward Goodwin. "With today’s news, our community will see more economic vitality."

N.C. Senator Norman Sanderson added, "Once again, North Carolina proves why it’s one of the top states for business in the nation."

The project involved collaboration with various partners including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, local educational institutions, and government bodies.
