Governor Josh Stein of North Carolina has issued a warning to residents as a winter storm approaches the state. With snow, ice, and cold weather expected today and tomorrow, Governor Stein emphasized the importance of caution and preparedness. He urged residents to "take care of each other," highlighting the community spirit among North Carolinians.

A State of Emergency was declared by Governor Stein in anticipation of the storm. The State Emergency Response Team is actively working to mitigate the impact on residents. Communication between state emergency operations and local management officials remains strong to ensure resources are available for quick response.

The forecast predicts varying snowfall across North Carolina, with northern counties expecting up to 4 inches and northeastern areas possibly seeing up to 8 inches. Cold temperatures combined with gusty winds will create wind chill values in the teens, while central and eastern regions may experience significant ice accumulation.

To assist communities during this period, more than 180 members of the North Carolina National Guard have been deployed. The N.C. Department of Transportation warns against hazardous travel conditions, advising people to limit travel unless necessary. Crews have pre-treated roads with brine and have salt reserves ready for icy conditions.

Residents are encouraged to visit ReadyNC.gov for updates on power outages and DriveNC.gov for real-time travel information. Preparedness tips from emergency management officials include staying informed about weather forecasts, stocking up on essentials, keeping communication devices charged, and having an emergency kit ready.

Precautions should also be taken for pets during freezing conditions. In case of power outages, safe operation of generators and heaters is advised to prevent hazards like carbon monoxide poisoning or fire risks.

Governor Stein's message underscores the need for vigilance as North Carolinians brace themselves for challenging weather conditions over the next few days.
