The City of Raleigh has embarked on a new project to increase affordable housing options for its residents. The Preserve at Gresham Lake, a community featuring 156 homes, is currently under construction. This development aims to support residents earning up to 70% of the area's median income and will include units priced for families earning 20% of the median income. This initiative is part of efforts to ensure more residents have access to safe and stable housing.

Landon Cox from LDG Development emphasized the importance of this project, stating, "[Building affordable] housing is hard, but problems are surmountable with the right people. And the right people are here in Raleigh."

Affordable housing plays a crucial role in building strong communities by enabling families to reside near jobs, schools, and essential services without facing financial strain from rent costs. The Preserve at Gresham Lake will offer not only quality homes but also amenities such as a pool, playground, fitness center, and community room.

The first residents are anticipated to move into these homes by summer 2026. With projects like this one, Raleigh continues its efforts to address the challenges of affordable housing step by step.
