Governor Josh Stein has declared March 2025 as Students@Work℠ Month in North Carolina. Throughout this period, over 25,000 students will have the opportunity to explore various jobs and industries within their local communities.
"Our students are our future: the future of our workforce and the future of our state," said Governor Josh Stein. "I am pleased to honor Students@Work℠ for their 15 years of efforts to connect schools to employers and help students discover their talents and passions."
The program allows students to learn about high-demand careers such as clean energy, health care, hospitality, finance, skilled trades, manufacturing, entrepreneurship, technology, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, education, construction, public service, and more.
Businesses across North Carolina will offer both virtual and in-person career awareness opportunities specifically aimed at middle school students. Partnerships with businesses like Enbridge Gas, State Employees’ Credit Union, Mission Health, Charlotte Bilingual Preschool, UNC Adams School of Dentistry, Duke Energy, and SteelFab are part of this initiative.
The primary partners for the Students@Work℠ program include the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The program is celebrating its 15th year. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality is also involved.
Students@Work operates through a work-based learning platform called the Navigator. This free online tool connects classroom learning with career pathways by allowing members from business, education, and workforce development communities to post and search for work-based learning opportunities.
NCBCE is a business-led educational non-profit that functions under the Office of the Governor. Since its inception in 1983, NCBCE has served as a crucial link between business leaders in North Carolina and education decision-makers to align educational curriculums with workforce readiness needs.
