The Carolina Hurricanes secured a decisive 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Lenovo Center, marking their fifth consecutive win. Eight players from the Hurricanes contributed points during the game.
Seth Jarvis opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal early in the first period, his third consecutive game finding the net. "Our goalie played really well. He was dynamite, really," said head coach Rod Brind'Amour, praising Pyotr Kochetkov's performance as he made 23 saves to outduel Andrei Vasilevskiy.
In the second period, Jordan Martinook extended Carolina's lead before Jack Roslovic added another goal, reaching his career milestone of 100 goals. Gage Goncalves scored for Tampa Bay in the third period, but Sean Walker restored Carolina's three-goal advantage shortly after.
Jarvis' shorthanded tally brought him closer to franchise records and tied him with Sebastian Aho for second place in shorthanded points among NHL players this season. Aho also moved up in all-time rankings for Finnish-born players.
Despite missing key players Andrei Svechnikov and Dmitry Orlov due to injuries, Carolina managed to dominate on home ice and surpass Vegas in league standings for home victories.
"We had a few guys capitalize on their chances," said Jarvis about their gameplay against Tampa Bay. Sean Walker also praised Kochetkov: "He's been playing unbelievable all year."
Jack Roslovic reflected on team dynamics post-trade deadline: "It's great to have guys that are going to be here for the long haul."
The Hurricanes will practice again on Thursday before facing Detroit on Friday evening.
