Duke Energy Florida lineworkers excelled at the 2025 Florida Lineman’s Rodeo, held on March 8, securing top awards and earning a place in the International Lineman’s Rodeo this fall. The event tested participants' skills in tasks such as pole climbing, equipment repair, and rescue operations.

The winners, who contributed to hurricane response efforts after hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton, will compete in Bonner Springs, Kansas on October 18. Duke Energy organizes regional rodeos in the Carolinas, Florida, and the Midwest to select competitors for this international event.

Jason Williams, Duke Energy Florida's senior vice president of power grid operations, stated: “We put complete trust in our lineworkers to perform challenging, highly skilled work and provide the energy we all rely on." He added that their commitment is evident through their participation following significant hurricane impacts.

The winners included Corey Sill from Ocala taking first place in Apprentice Overall Awards. In Journeyman Overall Awards, Dalton Adams from Southeast Orlando led his team to victory. Chet Braden from Walsingham secured first place in Journeyman Senior Overall Awards.

In 2023, Duke Energy lineworkers won four awards at the International Lineman’s Rodeo. Participation was limited in 2024 due to hurricane responses. This year’s Florida event was supported by volunteers including Duke Energy staff and community college students.

Williams highlighted the importance of lineworkers beyond extreme weather events: “It’s through their efforts that we’re able to safely and efficiently deliver power.” Duke Energy is focusing on hiring skilled workers through collaborations with community colleges offering lineworker training programs.

Duke Energy Florida serves two million customers across a vast area with its substantial energy capacity. As part of its broader strategy, Duke Energy is enhancing its electric grid and investing in cleaner energy sources while maintaining customer reliability.
