Duke Energy has announced a commitment to financially support Florida customers during the 2025 baseball season. The company, in partnership with its foundation, will donate $1,000 to its Share the Light Fund for every regular season game win by the Tampa Bay Rays. This initiative aims to provide assistance to residents facing financial difficulties in paying utility bills.
“Duke Energy Florida is proud to serve each of our 2 million customers each day. During life’s challenging times we remain committed, which can be seen through the availability of our assistance programs," said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. “Partnerships with organizations with a strong platform, like the Tampa Bay Rays, offer us a great opportunity to reach more of our customers in need.”
The Share the Light Fund is supported by contributions from employees, retirees, customers, and Duke Energy shareholders, all of which are matched by the Duke Energy Foundation up to $500,000. In 2024, this fund distributed nearly $750,000 in energy bill assistance to qualifying residents.
Funds are channeled through social service agencies within Duke Energy's service territories, including organizations like United Way Suncoast. The program provides monthly distributions to aid customers in need.
In addition to financial assistance, Duke Energy offers resources to help customers manage energy use and costs. These include:
- Home Energy Checks, offering evaluations and recommendations for home energy efficiency.
- Home Improvement Rebate Programs for energy efficiency upgrades.
- Income-Qualified Weatherization Program for installing energy improvements.
- EnergyWise Home Program, providing bill credits for reducing energy use during high demand periods.
- Time-of-Use Rate and Budget Billing programs to manage energy costs predictably.
Customers can take steps to lower energy usage with advice such as reducing thermostat settings, regular maintenance of heating systems, setting water heaters to 120 degrees, sealing air leaks, and using LED bulbs.
Duke Energy Foundation supports community needs with over $30 million annually from Duke Energy shareholders, meeting the requirements of customers in their service areas. Duke Energy Florida, a subsidiary, serves a vast area in Florida, providing electricity to millions.
