Firefighting efforts continue on the Black Cove Complex in Polk and Henderson counties, where 493 personnel are currently deployed. Additional resources have arrived from across North Carolina and 14 other states to support ongoing suppression and repair efforts as favorable weather conditions help decrease fire activity.

The Black Cove Fire has reached 3,500 acres and is 35% contained. Strategic firing operations were conducted in the Camp Creek area, allowing for safer conditions. The fire, located approximately two miles northeast of Saluda in the Green River Gorge, was initially reported on March 19 and attributed to a downed powerline.

The Deep Woods Fire spans 3,970 acres with a 32% containment status. It is burning near Columbus within the Green River Gorge and Holbert Cove community. Following successful operations, containment lines have been strengthened. Efforts continue to secure the area with the prospect of increased containment due to favorable weather. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.

The Fish Hook Fire has been fully contained, after burning 199 acres northwest of Mill Spring near Lake Adger. This fire was also caused by a downed powerline and was first reported on March 20.

Evacuation levels for affected areas are continually reassessed, with updates provided on Polk and Henderson counties' websites. A Temporary Flight Restriction is in place to facilitate safe aerial firefighting operations. Grounded drones could pose significant hazards to public and firefighter safety.

Governor Josh Stein declared a State of Emergency on March 26 to enhance the state’s wildfire response capabilities. A statewide ban on open burning, effective since March 21, remains enforced, nullifying existing permits and halting new ones.
