The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality's Division of Coastal Management is set to hold a public hearing regarding the Mid-Currituck Bridge project on April 16 from 5-7 p.m. This event, hosted at the Currituck Extension Center in Barco, will accept public input on the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) application by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority.
The NCDEQ informed the public, according to GS 113A-119(b), that the application was deemed complete on January 7, 2025. Spanning over the Currituck Sound from Aydlett to south of Corolla, the project, known as TIP No. R-2576, includes improvements to existing roadways across Currituck and Dare Counties. A prior hearing took place in Dare County on March 18. The application materials can be reviewed at the DCM office in Morehead City or accessed online.
The public hearing details are as follows:

- Registration: Opens at 4 p.m. onsite via sign-in sheet
Attendees are encouraged to offer comments in person or in writing. To ensure time efficiency, speaker comments may be limited depending on the number of speakers.
The comment period has been extended until April 30, 2025. Written comments can be sent to Tancred Miller, Director, Division of Coastal Management, at 400 Commerce Avenue, Morehead City, NC 28557. Alternatively, comments can be emailed to DCMcomments@deq.nc.gov, with "Mid-Currituck CAMA application" as the subject line.
All received comments will contribute to the final permit decision. Those interested will be informed of this decision upon written request.
