Members of the media have been invited to participate in a two-part event organized by the NC S.A.F.E. campaign in partnership with the Wake County Public School System. The event will introduce a new statewide program under the NC S.A.F.E. initiative, designed to provide school districts with information and resources on safe firearm storage for parents.

The event will begin with Parent Safety Night on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m. Attendees will receive free gun locks and access to presentations addressing safety issues at 6:30 and 7:10, along with additional resources. The following day, a press conference will take place on Thursday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m., featuring remarks by North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson. The focus will be on the importance of promoting safe firearm storage among parents in North Carolina and the contributions of the NC S.A.F.E. for Schools initiative.

Both events will be at Garner Magnet High School, located at 2101 Spring Drive, Garner, NC. The Parent Safety Night is scheduled for the auditorium, while the press conference will be hosted in the media center.

Representatives from various organizations will be present at the Parent Safety Night, including the NC S.A.F.E. team, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, the Wake County Public School System, the NC Department of Justice, and the Garner Police Department.

Speakers at the press conference will include William Lassiter, DPS Deputy Secretary for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention; Jeff Jackson; Chris Adams, Garner Police Deputy Chief; Tyler Swanson, Wake County Board of Education Vice Chair; Teresa Jones, Wake County PTA Council President; Dr. Robert P. Taylor, Superintendent of the Wake County Public School System; and Matt Price, Garner Magnet High School Principal.

Event attendees are requested to arrive by 10 a.m. for setup and will undergo a security check-in process that includes scanning a QR code and showing photo ID.
