Raleigh officials are trying to make it easier for certain businesses to expand their outdoor seating operations as the state progresses through the phases of reopening.
The Outdoor Seating Temporary License allows business owners to expand their reach and conduct business on city public rights-of-way such as sidewalks or in privately owned parking lots without having to meet specific city code and permit requirements, Raleigh officials posted to the city's website on June 25. Businesses must agree to continue to work to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Restaurants, breweries, wineries, bottle shops and wine shops were allowed to open under Phase 2 of the governor's reopening plan, according to the city website. Establishments have to adhere to occupancy limits, social distancing standards and a disinfection protocol. These businesses are allowed to apply for an Outdoor Seating Temporary License now.
All businesses that register will be issued a license and the license will be good until all COVID-19 restrictions are lifted plus a 30-day grace period, according to the city website.
