New York Times Best-selling Author Headlines Our Annual Meeting

The 132nd Annual Meeting, presented by Wells Fargo, brings together business and community leaders for networking and celebrating the accomplishments of our region. Our new virtual format provides dynamic content and the opportunity to connect online.

Keynote Address

We also are excited to welcome Innovative Business Thought Leader and New York Times Best-Selling Author Dan Heath as our keynote speaker. Heath co-wrote four of the most-loved business books of the past decade: “Decisive,” “Switch,” “Made to Stick,” and “The Power of Moments.” The Heath Brothers’ books have sold more than 3 million copies worldwide and been translated into 33 languages.

Heath lives in Durham where he is a senior fellow at Duke University’s CASE Center, which supports social entrepreneurs. Previously, he worked as a researcher and case writer for Harvard Business School.

During his address, Heath will discuss how business leaders and organizations can learn to spot problems in advance. Heath recently released Upstream: The Quest to Solve Problems Before They Happen (March 2020), which explores a vital question: Why are we so often trapped in a cycle of reaction—putting out fires, responding to emergencies—when the problems we’re reacting to could have been prevented? Upstream studies leaders who have escaped this cycle and triumphed in preventing major problems: Customer churn. Homelessness. Chronic disease. Dropouts. The book reveals the approaches used by these leaders to overcome problems that were thought intractable.

A Time to Celebrate and A Look Ahead

During our Annual Meeting, we will welcome our new board chair. Current Board Chair DeLisa Alexander of Red Hat, Inc. will pass the gavel to our next chair, O'Hara Macken of IHS Markit.
