Bailey Manufacturing Company (BMC) announced plans to open a new production facility in Laurinburg, Scotland County, adding 35 jobs to the area. The decision involves a more than $4.3 million investment in a 50,000-square-foot facility, which will double the company's production capacity and provide additional space for manufacturing, warehousing, and administration.
Governor Josh Stein commented, “Bailey Manufacturing’s decision to locate to Scotland County is more proof that North Carolina is a top state for businesses across all industries.” BMC, based in New York, manufactures stamped metal components and offers machining, welding, and assembly services. It serves automotive giants like General Motors and ships 13 million parts annually across several countries, including the United States, Mexico, China, and South Africa.
John Hines, President of Bailey Manufacturing, expressed excitement about joining North Carolina's manufacturing landscape, stating, “Our new southeast facility will allow us to better serve our growing customer base.” He also acknowledged support from local and state authorities in facilitating the project.
North Carolina Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley noted, “BMC is a great addition to our automotive supply chain of more than 250 manufacturers.” The state's robust infrastructure supports the automotive supply network and includes 20 global Original Equipment Manufacturer suppliers.
Job openings at the new facility will offer an average annual salary of $52,000, surpassing the current Scotland County average of $46,708. The anticipated payroll impact for the region is approximately $1.8 million per year.
For this expansion, BMC will benefit from a $120,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to local governments for attracting businesses. These funds require matching contributions from local entities, with the grant contingent upon achieving job and investment goals.
N.C. Senator Danny Earl Britt welcomed BMC, highlighting local readiness to support the company's success. Similarly, N.C. Representative Garland E. Pierce stated that the investment reflects Scotland County's business-friendly environment.
Key collaborators in bringing BMC to North Carolina included the Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership, the North Carolina General Assembly, local education systems, and multiple local and regional organizations.
