Governor Josh Stein marked his 100th day in office by visiting western North Carolina, an area crucial to his tenure as the state's governor. He provided updates on recovery efforts from the devastation experienced in recent years. Stein addressed the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, discussing the milestones and ongoing work needed to aid recovery in the region. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on western North Carolina's rebuilding efforts.

“We’ve spent the first 100 days fighting for the people of western North Carolina, and we will not stop now,” Stein stated. He expressed gratitude for the progress made and for the partners supporting the community. Stein appealed to the General Assembly for further fund allocations specifically for home repairs, small business grants, fire prevention, and local government support.

Additionally, Stein participated in a groundbreaking event alongside country musician Eric Church for a new affordable housing project in Newland. He commended Church and his nonprofit, Chief Cares, for their contributions to building new homes, seen as critical for broader recovery efforts.

Stein also highlighted financial elements of recovery, such as a $120 million allocation for home repairs from the Disaster Recovery Act of 2025, and mentioned North Carolina's submission of an action plan for a $1.4 billion grant from HUD—marked as the fastest submission by any state for a major hurricane in over a decade.

The Governor committed to working with various agencies and partners to enhance western North Carolina's recovery and resilience.

Recent coverage has explored Governor Stein's initiatives, including his response to Hurricane Helene, various legislative actions, and federal assistance pursuits for North Carolina. As the state continues to navigate recovery, these efforts aim to prioritize education and hurricane recovery funding, honoring those affected.
