In Raleigh, the police department is working to improve relationships between officers and citizens with the re-launch of their "Cops on the Block" program. Initially introduced in 2022, the program was reintroduced in March 2025 under the direction of Chief Rico Boyce.

The program aims to have officers actively engage with the community by assigning them to specific neighborhoods. Officers will spend time building connections by attending local events and community meetings.

"This initiative has been met with enthusiasm from residents who are eager to see a more visible police presence in their neighborhoods. 'Cops on the Block' is all about making connections," Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce said. "I want our officers to not only enforce the law but also serve as community members who listen, support, and collaborate with residents to address their concerns."

The Raleigh Police Department sees this program as a way to foster transparency and focus on crime prevention through community involvement.
