In a move to advance the clinical development of assets for the treatment of short bowel syndrome and celiac disease, 9 Meters Biopharma, Inc. formed a scientific advisory board to work with the company leadership team.

The team of six are experts in the gastroenterology field with sub-specialties in celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and functional GI diseases, the company said in an Aug. 31 release. They will work on advancing the clinical development of NM-002 for the treatment of short bowel syndrome (SBS) and larazotide for the treatment of celiac disease.

"Having access to the knowledge and expertise of these six individuals on our SAB will be incredibly valuable as we advance our candidates for both celiac disease and SBS," John Temperato, president and chief executive officer of 9 Meters, said in the release.

The six experts are Dr. Mark Pimental of Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Z Myron Falchuk of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dr. Charles Randall of Gastroenterology Research of America and University of Texas-San Antonio Medical Center, Dr. Benjamin Lebwohl of Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Dr. Russel Cohen of the University of Chicago, and Dr. Maureen Leonard of Harvard Medical School.
