TOWN OF GARNER: Railroad Crossings to Be Closed Starting Tuesday for Work

Railroadclose

Town of Garner issued the following announcement on Mar. 24.

Contractors performing repair work will be closing the at-grade railroad crossings in and around Garner over the next several days beginning Tuesday morning. Motorists will need to find alternate routes that do not include these crossings while this work is occurring.

Crews are expected to begin with the Auburn Knightdale Road crossing (located between Garner Road and U.S. 70) Tuesday morning starting at or around 5 a.m.

On Wednesday at or around 5 a.m., the work is expected to move west to the Jones Sausage Road and New Rand Road crossings.

On Thursday at or around 5 a.m., the work is expected to continue west to the crossings at St. Mary’s Road and Vandora Springs Road.

The work will move on to Yeargan Road on Thursday or Friday morning; a more definite start will be shared when it becomes available to the Town.

The contractor reports that the amount of time needed to complete this work varies. Some crossings are reopened after approximately 24 hours, but some crossings require work that takes two or three days.

The Town will provide updates as necessary. Please see the links below for the contractor’s currently available suggested detours.
