The Office of Community Engagement has announced the selection of 12 individuals to join the Former DMV Site Project Working Group. According to the announcement, these individuals have shown a dedication to enhancing the New Bern Avenue Corridor and will play a vital role in shaping the future of the site.
The selected members of the project working group are all long-time Raleigh residents with deep connections to the corridor. Hailing from neighborhoods such as College Park, Battery Heights, Oakwood, and Cotton Place, many of them are second-, third-, or fourth-generation natives.
These residents are not just passive members of their communities but actively engage in various civic activities. They participate in local initiatives, advisory councils, and community-based organizations, showcasing a strong commitment to fostering positive change and building connections within their neighborhoods.
The group members bring a diverse set of skills and expertise to the project. Among them are community faith-based organization leaders, public health administrators, educators, and community organizers. Their knowledge of issues affecting marginalized populations, including real estate development and affordable housing, will be instrumental in the project's success.
The City expressed confidence in the group's ability to provide valuable perspectives in developing a vision for the Former DMV Site. The members of the Project Working Group are Dr. Ajamu Dillahunt-Holloway, Desmond Dunn, Clark Rinehart, Harolynn Coplin, Dr. Shawn Singleton, Tara Minter, Felts Lewis, Karen Haynes, Anthony Pope, Helen Tart, Harold Mallette, and Tolulope Omokaiye.
