Winners of the 2024 Raleigh Environmental Awards were honored at the city's annual Earth Day Celebration, showcasing the community's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. The awards recognized a diverse range of actions aimed at promoting a greener and healthier Raleigh.

In a statement, it was highlighted that, "These winners represent the hard work of dozens of community members who make Raleigh a healthier, greener and more sustainable city."

Among the recipients was the Walnut Creek Watershed Action Team, which received the Raleigh Environmental Stewardship Award for their efforts in improving environmental conditions in the Walnut Creek Watershed through education and outreach.

Karthik Jayakumar was awarded the first Community Action award for his work in promoting local food purchasing at NC State through data and programming skills. WakeUP Wake County received the second Community Action Award for leading discussions on the environmental impacts of affordable housing, transit, and land use.

Toward Zero Waste was recognized with the Climate Action Award for Waste Reduction, while South Wake Conservationists received the Climate Action Award for Education for engaging residents in environmental topics.

The City of Raleigh’s Office of Sustainability and Solarize the Triangle partners were honored with the Climate Action Award for Energy, and the City of Raleigh’s IT/GIS Team received the Climate Action Award for Land Use & Equity for their work on depicting heat in Raleigh.

Nuvoda was awarded the Business Innovation for Environmental Stewardship for their technology in treating wastewater, while NC State Make-A-Thon won the Next Generation of Environmental Leaders Award for promoting sustainability among students.

The Dare to Be Green Award went to the City of Raleigh’s Vehicle Fleet Services for their use of Renewable Propane in the city’s fleet.

Additionally, Paul Clark was recognized with the Commute Smart Award, and winners of the Capture It! Stormwater Art Contest, including Lisa Wang, Rhys and Jayda Price, and AJ Toler, were acknowledged for their creative expressions on water quality and environmental awareness.

The Trashion Competition showcased recycled garments and accessories, with CarlyAnn Underwood, Evie Gardiner, Lani Benson & Eden McKinney, Jayla Renaud, Anthony Davy, Jennifer Parker, and Sophia Widen and Cora Regan emerging as the winners in different categories.

The awards ceremony celebrated the dedication and innovation of individuals and organizations in Raleigh towards creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious community.
