The City of Raleigh is offering two grant programs aimed at fostering growth and development among small business owners. These initiatives, the Building Up-fit Grant and the Facade Rehabilitation Grant, are designed to support businesses in revitalizing their commercial spaces.
The Building Up-fit Grant provides financial assistance to small business owners looking to activate vacant or underutilized commercial building space within Raleigh. The grant operates on a 1:1 match reimbursement basis, covering up to $15,000 or $25,000 in qualified expenses depending on the nature of the project. Eligible improvements include mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work for build-outs; HVAC and fire suppression systems; flooring; lighting; installation of permanent fixtures and restrooms; construction of new walls or demolition of existing ones; and support mechanisms such as roofing and foundation work. It is important to note that residential properties, properties outside of Raleigh, and exterior projects do not qualify for this grant.
For more information about the Building Up-fit Grant Program, interested parties can learn more through official channels.
The Facade Rehabilitation Grant aims to enhance the exteriors of commercial buildings, making them more vibrant and attractive. This program offers matching reimbursement grants up to $10,000 for qualified exterior improvements. Eligible projects include removing false fronts like aluminum panels; repairing or replacing windows, doors, cornices, and facade materials; installing exterior lighting; undertaking exterior painting as part of a larger rehabilitation effort; as well as covering design and construction costs.
